17 Year Old Chigozie Shines on Full Luton Debut in Carabao Cup

Luton Town celebrated the full debut of 17 year old centre-back Christian Chigozie in a Carabao Cup match against Coventry City. Born in Spain and eligible to represent Nigeria, Spain or England, Chigozie signed professional terms last season and had previously been named on the bench in a Premier League match at Arsenal. He slotted in seamlessly to a back three and completed the full 90 minutes despite a 1–0 defeat.

When asked about his confidence, he said: “The confidence came from all the other players, who boosted me before the game, from the gaffer telling me he trusted me a lot, and from the players helping me throughout the game.” He admitted he only learnt of his starting role a few hours before kick-off.

Chigozie began in Luton’s Pre-Academy at under-seven level before joining the main academy two years later, highlighting his long-standing connection with the club.
